First CSRD-report of Deltares

Deltares

Do you know Deltares

As an independent knowledge institute for applied research, they do incredibly important work to keep deltas livable. Christien Pennings of TOSCA guided Deltares with their first sustainability report and the sharpening of goals. Deltares wanted to show stakeholders how they are making their operations more sustainable. As a framework they chose the CSRD, even though they do not fall under its scope. CSRD guidelines are well constructed, increasingly utilized and make reports easily comparable and recognizable for stakeholders.

We started with a double materiality assessment to identify the greatest sustainability impacts, risks and opportunities. We then determined policies, actions and goals. Based in part on existing sustainability initiatives.

Here are some impressive results from Deltares in 2024:

  • 89.57K consultations of the Deltares open software pages and 292 publications in the open knowledge base (on e.g. flood risks, greenhouse gas reduction and future-proof infrastructure)
  • Active participation in over 70 projects of Top Consortia for Knowledge and Innovation (TKIs)
  • Employee training in political, administrative and social sensitivity
  • First campus building connected to a Thermal Energy Storage Plant. Further 100% green electricity of which 26% is generated by the 5,900 solar panels on the Delft campus. Goal 2040: a climate-neutral campus
  • 35% reduction in CO2 emissions from air travel by employees compared to 2019. Goal 2030: 50% reduction
